ROYAL ARTILLERY CHARITABLE FUND & ASSOCIATION

About us

Thousands of serving and former Gunners receive help from the Royal Artillery Charitable Fund every single year.

More than £1m is granted annually – and you only need to have served for one day in the Royal Artillery to be part of our family for life; “Once a Gunner, always a Gunner”.

The Fund was established in 1839 and is registered with the Charity Commission.

It provides everything from help in dealing with bereavement, provision of housing, and mobility assistance, to training for employment, mental health assistance, funeral costs, debt management, housing repairs and cost of living support.

The Royal Artillery Association (RAA), of which His Majesty The King is Patron, is part of the RACF and was started on 26 May 1920 by the RA War Commemoration Fund to create a ‘Gunner Friend’ network in every part of the United Kingdom and Commonwealth. The aim was/is to create and foster a bond of comradeship irrespective of rank, between all who are serving or who have ever served as artillery soldiers and to maintain and promote the proud traditions of  the Royal Artillery motto ‘Ubique’ (Latin for ‘Everywhere’ reflecting the presence of Gunners in every area of battle on land, at sea and in the air). At the heart of the Association are over 4000 active Gunner veteran members and their families belonging to a network of 86 ‘Branches’ across the UK and abroad, all with links to active Royal Artillery units. This creates an amazing framework of support and camaraderie across the serving and retired parts of our family.

Life changing impact

"My sincere thanks to the Charities who were good enough to consider me for such a life changing donation. They have made such a difference to my life and I am so very happy in my new home. I am sure that my husband would be very proud to know that you have all looked after me so well". - Gunner Widow

"I want to express my heart felt gratitude for your time and support during a very challenging period in my life. Your assistance made it possible for me to travel to Australia to be with my father, who was in critical condition and required triple bypass open heart surgery. Thank you very much from the bottom of my heart for being there for me when I needed it the most. Your support allowed me to be with my dad during a critical time, and I will always remember your kindness". - Serving Soldier

“Thank you so much for the recent grant we have received from the RACF, it has made a huge difference with our overseas travel expenses to receive lifesaving cancer treatment for my wife” – serving Gunner Officer

“I am writing to express my deepest gratitude for the generous financial support you have provided me during this difficult time. Your kindness has made a significant difference in my life. The challenges I've been facing have been overwhelming, it’s comforting to know that there are organizations like yours that step in and support soldiers and individuals like me when they need it most. Please know that your support has made a real and lasting impact. I will always remember your kindness, and I am deeply grateful to be on the receiving end of such compassion, one day I will hopefully be able repay the favour, so you are able to continue supporting soldiers who need the support. Thank you once again for your generosity. It means more than words can express”  - serving Reserve Soldier.

“I would like to personally thank you from myself and my family for the contribution to support my son in getting his Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis. This will better his future and open more opportunities and support for him that is much needed. Seeing first-hand what the RACF can offer has been eye opening” – serving Soldier.
